Having your own blog is definitely a very popular thing to do now, probably because it’s just so easy to start a blog and there are even ways you can make money from your blog. If you’re just starting out and you need a little blogging advice, there are many online forums that you can join and ask questions of other more experienced members.  If you want a very quick overview, keep reading…

One thing for you to realize, is that you can start a blog for free.  Two of the most popular blog formats are WordPress.com and Blogger .com.  You will have a wide variety of themes, the overall look of your site, to choose from with either format.  You can have it hosted for free or you can buy your own domain name and set up a hosting account so that you actually own your blog site.  This is the preferred method if you want to make money with your blog since you don’t actually own anything with the free methods.

The next thing you will need to consider is what are you going to blog about?  Do you just want to set up a personal blog so you can share your travel or family stories with friends and family around the world, do you want to share gardening tips, etc?  It can be whatever you want it to be you just have to decide.

Just remember that if you want to use your blog to start a business, you will need to spend a little more time and find a profitable niche market instead of just setting up a blog about something you love to do.  In order to make money with your blog you have to make sure that there are enough other people who are willing to spend money on the niche you pick.

Whether your blog is a personal blog or a business blog, you can still make money by adding some ads to your blog. To do this simply sign up to Google Adsense, they will place ads on your blog related to the topic of your blog. Whenever someone clicks on one of the ads you’ll get paid a commission.  The amount of money you make won’t be a lot, but what the heck, if you’re just blogging for fun anyway making a little extra money every month is just gravy!

Another thing to keep in mind, again this advice will pertain to any type of blog whether it’s a personal or business blog, is to make sure that you stay on topic with your blog readers.  If your blog  is about gardening you don’t want to start writing about sewing for example. While it is ok to write the occasional post on something a little off topic, don’t make it a habit.  Remember, people will come back to your blog over and over again because they are interested in the topic of your blog.  If they are reading a blog about gardening then they want to read about gardening.  Give your readers what they want.

By following this simple blogging advice you can be be up and ready to blog in no time.  It’s a fun way to express your opinion, make some money, share your knowledge, or just have fun.

Blogging Advice

By · Comments (0)

If you’re like so many other people who’ve gotten the ‘blogging bug’, congratulations, you’re in for a lot of fun!  People start their own blogs for many reasons, sometimes they just want to be able to share their life with family and friends far away, sometimes they like sharing their knowledge about one of their hobbies, and sometimes they want to make money.  Whatever your reason for starting a blog, you’re going to want to start off on the right foot and get some great blogging advice, and that’s where this article can help.

Blogging isn’t a difficult thing to learn, as a matter of fact, most people can easily learn all they need to know in an hour or so.  Here are some key points to keep in mind as you begin your online blogging adventure:

1.  You can start your own blog for free.  There are many blogging platforms that will host your blog for you for no charge, WordPress.com and Blogger.com are two of the most popular.  Even with the free versions, you’ll still have access to hundreds of different designs, or themes, that you can use for your blog. You can also use plugins and widgets, basically just like  apps for a smart phone, that will allow you to do many different things with your blog, these are usually also free.

2. The topic of your blog should be based on two major considerations: what do you love and whether or not you want to use your blog to start an online business. Sometimes these two things will overlap, your business blog can be about something that you love.  Other times you won’t be able to make money with your hobby because there just aren’t enough other people who love that topic enough to pay for products related to it.

3. When you start your blog, especially a business blog, you will want people to return frequently and read your new posts.  In order to keep them coming back you’ll want to make sure that you make your posts and the other information on your blog related to the topic of your blog.  For example, if your blog is about gardening you really don’t want to start going off on tangents about all kinds of other topics.  Occasionally it’s ok to stray a little bit but the bottom line is that the readers of your blog joined because they were interested in that topic, so give them what they want.

4. If you want to use your blog to make money and start a business you should consider buying your own domain name and get your own hosting account.  Don’t worry if this sounds foreign to you, it’s easy and inexpensive enough.  The reason this is important is that if you stick with the free versions you don’t actually own anything, not the name of your blog or that little piece of internet ‘real estate’ your blog sits on.  That’s not a good way to structure your business. Buy your domain name and get your blog hosted and you will own it and you can decide what you want to do with it.

I hope this blogging advice has helped you a little bit.  The most important thing to remember is that you should have fun with your blog.  This is a great way to express yourself so make the most out of it.

Creating A Blog

By · Comments (0)

If you have been thinking that  creating a blog would be fun, and maybe even profitable, but you just don’t where to start, I can help.  Setting up your new blog is not difficult at all, even if you are an absolute beginner.  The simple steps to take can be learned and completed by most people in a few hours time.

Here are some key points you need to keep in mind before you jump in feet first:

1. The first thing you’ll want to give some thought to is what will be the topic of your blog?  Are you going to share some of your expertise on one of your hobbies?  Are you going to use your blog as a way to keep in touch with family and friends?  Or are you going to use your blog to build an online business?  This step is crucial in determining several other factors related to your blog.

For example, if you are building a blog to share your expertise or keep in touch with family, you can probably just stick with the many free blogging platforms around such as Blogger.com, WordPress.com, Squidoo.com, Hubpages.com, etc.  There is really no need for a ‘personal blogger’ to invest in their own domain name and hosting account, of course you can if you want, but you don’t really need to.

If, on the other hand, your blog is going to be for business and you are setting it up with the sole purpose of making an income online than you need to invest in a domain name and hosting account.  Think of it like this: you wouldn’t open a fast food franchise in someone else’s building would you?  You would at least need to have a contract stating that you were renting the space and therefore you could control, to a degree, what you did with that space.  The internet is no different.  When you own your domain name and you have your blog hosted it’s the same as owning some real estate online.  This is important for the long term success of your business, this is also the biggest mistake many newbies make.

2. The second most important thing you need to consider, especially if you’re setting up a business, is to choose the topic of your blog. This topic, or niche, will largely determine whether or not you succeed online.  Too many people just jump into a niche because they like it without having spent time researching whether or not it’s a viable market for them to make money in.

One of the best gauges of a good niche market is how many people are buying products related to that market?  No matter how many people might like a certain niche, do they actually spend money on it?  You can use free tools to determine this such as Amazon.com and the Google Keyword tools.  Take some time to find a good niche market and the majority of your work will be done.

3. And last, pick the theme that you want for your blog. You can find hundreds of themes for free.  Just pick a style that works for the subject of your blog.  If you are building a business blog you may also want to install some plugins that will increase the functionality of your blog.  A plugin is similar in concept to an app for a smart phone, it’s just a small software program that will enable you do to more things with your blog.  There are thousands of plugins available and most of them are free.

These tips will help you when you are creating a blog, no matter what type of blog you are putting together.  Most of all, enjoy yourself, blogging really is fun.
